Introduction.
Rin is a free and open source theme for
WordPress. Rin is operating under a
GPL license. The idea with open source (again you can get the legal jargon
here) basically means that you're free to do whatever you want to it. When you release it however the license stays the same and proper attribution is given to each author who's modified it since you started playing around with it.
Features.
- It is been designed to be highly customisable and incredibly easy to edit.
- All files needed to get your blog skinned completely are included.
- Category, Archives, links, About templates pages are included and ready to be applied, via Wordpress's new 'static' page system.
- Javascript buttons (code courtesy of Alex King) incorporated into the original design.
- Menu incorporated as part of the design.
- Standard Compliant

[...] I have K2 Alpha Four now installed. After playing with Rin for long enough I decided it was time for a change. Rin was not really meant to be customized. Don’t get me wrong, you can modify anything, but I wanted a theme that was essentially a blank canvas. K2 is just that. So please keep checking back and excuse the dust while I work on this site. [...]
[...] I’ve been adamant on using the Relaxation 3 column theme to replace Rin, but I remembered how badly it does a post-and-image layout. Bah. [...]
[...] The blog will be restyled when I do the rest of my site, but until then I’ve changed to the theme to Khaled Abou Alfa’s Rin 1.1. It’s loads better than my previous one. [...]
[...] For those of you who might have been interested, the photo galleries haven’t exactly played well with the new template as it were, and I haven’t made any links to it as of yet. Don’t worry tho, I haven’t added any new pictures in quite some time so you’re not missing anything important. I’m contemplating switching to Gallery, however I like the system I currently use (RumGallery), and if it doesn’t smarten up and start cooperating with my Rin theme, I’ll be forced to switch to a different Image Gallery compatible with Wordpress. [...] Well, I am just finishing up my CSS Reboot design tonight, hopefully I will get it finished in time. It is based around the same photo as above but I do have at least a couple of cool new things in this one and it is mine from scratch rather than a hacked version of Rin like I have at the moment.. [...] Not enough themes, of course. At the very least, we should have Rin; it’s a classy template, solidly coded, and it came second in the theme contest so I can’t really understand why it never made it to Matt’s Chosen Few. It’s blue and grey, isn’t that sufficient? [...]
[...] I have been messing around with this template, Rin, for some time now and I’m getting to a point where I’m happy with it. Little things here and there I want to change, but nothing major and all in time. I am fairly certain I’ll be sticking with this look for a while until the new Kubrick theme is released titled “K2“. K2 is the follow up to the amazingly popular and now “default” WordPress theme Kubrick designed by Michael Heilemann. The original, Kubrick, can be seen by clicking here. As you can see it is a simple, easily customizable, user-friendly template and the follow up has been highly anticipated. The new Kubrick, K2, is sleek, simple and even sexier so I am fairly certain I will try and mess with it to fit my tastes. To see the “under development” K2 click here and to read all the development details and notes click here. [...]

Hope You’ll like It (: [...]

[...] This site will now have more of a ‘purpose’ than before as well. The goal is to make this my professional site since I am striving to be a web developer. With that being said, I didn’t make this theme, but I took an already made theme, Rin, and am in the process of modifying it. I’ve already made several modifications, and I plan on making more over the course of the next few weeks. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know. [...]

[...] Most of those links are coming from Rin and Manji users. I’ve talked about this extensively before so once again, all those who have kept the link in there, thank you kindly. All those who have linked back to BK just because, again thanks guys. Which reminds me I’ve got to sort out my blogroll. It’s on my list of things to do, once I’ve got my complicator up and running again. [...]
[...] Manji and Rin Manji was released at the tail end of 2004, for Rin was released in March. I do want to thank two great personalities on the Broken Kode forums. James and Steph you guys are absolute gems and I thank you for all the help you’ve given to people throughout the year. [...]

[...] ETA: I’m pyschotic, I know. I changed the layout once more and will further edit it once I have a bit more time. This theme, designed by Khaled Abou Alfa at Broken Kode appears to be very customizable and easy to use. Hopefully I’ll be able to take the design in a more organized direction that’s aesthetically pleasing to the eye. [...]

[...] The Planetwork blog began using the WordPress Rin theme (http://www.brokenkode.com/rin/) today. Installation was effortless. Thanks to the WP and BrokenKode teams. [...]
[...] For a start the sites moved to a new theme, called Internet-jobs [www.gfxedit.com/themes/wordpress/internet-jobs-wordpress-theme.html]. No, really, that’s its name. It meets my site criteria of White and easy to read, although the text is cramped so I want to address that at some point. I’ve been theme shopping for a while as my old theme, Rin [www.brokenkode.com/rin], wouldn’t play nice with IE. The hated IE. The dreaded IE. IE, the eater of CSS. The Internet-jobs (giggle) theme plays nice with IE. [...]
[...] Just thought I’d give all the crazy cats out there looking for some different Rin and Manji flavours a nice treat. It might seem as though I’ve neglected my little themes, but I have not forsaken them. I’ve had a couple of flavours (different coats of paint) sitting on my harddrive waiting for me to clean them up and release them. I’ll try and sort them out in the coming month and put them out for everyone to play around with them. [...]
[...] Finally, I’m really liking the Rin theme overall. It’s very clean and relaxed. I think implementing Neuron’s sidebar idea with Rin’s sidebar will be very nice. The sidebar headers in Rin is very smooth and classy. [...]
[...] First, I commit myself to this website as a display of my technical skills and an expression of my thoughts. I switched to Rin, an open source Wordpress theme, and I will customize it to my liking this week. I will update the website regularly with my photography, coding projects, and professional information/resume. I will buy a new car in the next two weeks. Although I believe hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles are inevitable and necessary technologies, I cannot presently afford such a choice, despite its social, political, ecological and possibly economic superiority. I will likely purchase a 2006 Honda Civic Sedan. [...]
[...] I have to reference the creator of the Rin theme. In then end, it was that theme that really inspired me to create this. I couldn’t get over how much I liked the clean sophistication of his template. Don’t worry, I didn’t just hack his theme (which probably would’ve been a lot easier to be honest) I created this one pretty much from the ground up. (Okay, I did reference some other themes to make sure I was progressing in the right direction and I stole some of Rin’s images.) Over at his blog, he says he’s got another idea for a theme that should be amazing. I can’t wait to see what comes of it. Maybe the basis of my next theme? [...] I went to the WordPress theme directory to “shop” for a theme to replace the default. There were almost too many to choose from, especially considering that the majority was average, at best. Still, the good ones are really good, and for me it came down to Wuhan, Rin, and Blix (out of the ones I saw). I plan on trying them out for a while before picking one to modify. The author of Wuhan (Meng Gao) has a really interesting site called Authentic Asian. Ditto for the author of Rin (Khaled Abou Alfa); his site is Broken Kode. [...]
[...] I’ve been playing with the Rin layout and tweaked it a little here and there. Kerri had a quick look at it and liked it, so I’ve moved it out of “development” and you’ll find “rin.henman” under the “Switch Themes” section in the sidebar. Let me know what you think. [...]

[...] Special shout out Usually when I start a redesign I pick up Manji or Rin and start hacking away. Certain things are ready for me, however looking at the code found in there, I’ve got to say that a lot of work is really needed to bring that theme up to speed with the rest of the themes out there, except I know if I jump back into that field it will really take a long time/ Thankfully there’s Fauna. Fauna by Joen IMHO should become the WordPress default. Why? Because it’s supremely easy to understand and Joen has seriously made it clever. The most time consuming part of making a theme for WordPress I found was sorting out the single post pages, with all the comments and the comment forms and the implemenation for the trackbacks etc. It just gets a bit ridiculous. So Joen’s efforts have been supremely amazing to have and while the last time round he helped me out with the code, this time he did one better and gave me his site :). [...]

[...] So I’d like to address those that didn’t like the Shuttle mockups. You (the collective you) got 5 people (plus 1) devoting a massive amount of their time to make your blogging experience more enjoyable; more usable; more fun. We didn’t ask for compensation and we didn’t ask for anything in return. We didn’t rush into this and we certainly didn’t hack through the designs. We did this because we believed in the sotfware. We believed in the people behind it and the people using it. None of us on the team are new to open source contribution. Michael’s contribution doesn’t need much introduction (Kubrick and K2), similarly with Chris (whose contributions extend far into the past of WordPress, Persian, plugins galore, K2), Joen does this for a living and has contributed for the admin panel on Zenphoto (including the default theme) and his wordpress theme Fauna. I have given the open source world Manji & Rin and contributed in the redesign of the FOFRedux UI. Joshua has answered enough support questions to make my head dizzy. Bryan has contributed to the world ChaoticSoul. [...]

Heilemann developed a default theme for version 1.5 of Wordpress called Kubrick. Winkler was heavily involved with the development of Wordpress 2.0. Alfa contributed Manji, Rin, and the Shuttle project to Wordpress. Scott Merrill has developed plug-ins for Wordpress in the past.
